This trip down under was a surprise addition to our 2015 worldly ventures. We have been saving frequent flier miles on Delta for years, and suddenly discovered we had enough to fly to Australia free of charge. Next we looked for a cruise from Perth east to New Zealand and then back to Sydney. RCCL featured two cruises that fit the bill. The Explorer of the Seas offered a 17-day cruise originating in Perth with stops in Adelaide, Melbourne, Milford Sound New Zealand, Dunedin, Picton, Wellington, then back to Sydney, AU. The ship was the Explorer of the Seas, one of the more recent mega-ships we have avoided at all costs. The ship was magnificent. With lots of sea days the relaxation was wonderful. Interestingly, all of the sea days were miserable topside, and the days in port were beautiful. Go figure!!
The following picture of the author and wife is all that fits into this introductory page. Here we are eating one of the gourmet meals in the dining room on the third deck of RCCL’s Explorer of the Seas, one of many such meals with calories largely beyond subsistence. Please excuse the Norwegian lapel pin and the Mickey Mouse tie. Read on!! The New Zealand pages are included in the Islands menu.
