Marmaris is the Riviera of southwest Turkey. Built on a large bay protected by mountains on all sides, it is a water wonderland for swimming and boating by the rich and famous. We were there for one day on Azamara’s cruise ship Journey. Our excursion visited the countryside miles from Marmaris where we saw a culture and creatures less often appreciated. It was a pleasant escape from the city turmoil and archaeological digs which many folks are eager to avoid.
