Salvador de Bahia, Brazil is built along two coastal levels so steeply divided that elevators and cable cars are used to transfer from one to the other. It has a large black population in part because the city was a major point of entry for the slave trade into Brazil. As our visit was on a Sunday, the beaches were heavily populated by natives.
