The Navy’s Gardiners Bay (AVP-39) held an annual reunion in DC in September of 2011. This occasion was the perfect opportunity to extend the visit to Niagara Falls, one of the places on grandma’s bucket list. The Gardiners Bay, a small seaplane tender, was one of the ships to accompany the battleship Missouri into Tokyo Bay for the signing of Japan’s surrender in WWII. The Old Monkey was not aboard at the time, but three of those old sailors in attendance were present and aboard the ship during the war. Many of the pictures here duplicate those posted with the reunion, minus the pictures of shipmates.
